Special Screening this Saturday Night 6/28/08 - Coney Island Film Society Presents:
Coney Island Films at the Coney Island Museum!

An evening of short films from yesterday and today all about Coney Island!

Under The Roller Coaster (2005) 15 minutes
Dir. Lila Place. Built in 1925, the Thunderbolt Roller Coaster was a Coney Island icon and for forty years Mae Timpano called it home.

Whirligig (1959) 8 minutes
Dir. Len Gittleman, Michael Train. Never before seen at Coney Island the film focuses on Jimmy McCulloughs Boardwalk Carousel in 1959. The film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959 as the opening film of the festival, and represented the United States in the short film category.

Coney Island Cyclone (1977) 15 minutes

Dir. Mike Edwards. At one time, some felt the Earth was an inanimate object. The same silly idea was held about the Cyclone roller coaster until this film delivered the truth in 1977, the year of its 50th anniversary. From under a blanket of snow, experience it coming to life and sharing its benevolent personality to a needy yet often unsuspecting crowd.

Bally Master (2007) 22 minutes

Dir. Gary Beeber. Enter the bizarre world of Scott Baker, master of the Bally stage at the Coney Island Circus Sideshow. The film also features fellow Coney Island sideshow performers as well as Coney Island personalities and habitués. Watch Scott as he performs his most outrageous sideshow routines and talks in depth about his life and the history of geeking and of the sideshow. It's all REAL, it's all HERE, it's all ALIVE! COME ON IN!

Coney Island USA (1952) 20 minutes
Dir. Valentine Sherry. An impressionistic view of a day in the life of Coney Island from the desertion in the early morning to the hysteria at midnight. Narrated by Henry Morgan
